Delicious Slice of Texas Chocolate Pecan Pie

This Texas Chocolate Pecan Pie is a rich and decadent twist on a classic dessert. The combination of chocolate and pecans creates a truly unforgettable flavor experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening, chilled
  • 4-6 tablespoons ice water
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Make the Crust: In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Cut in butter and shortening using a pastry blender or your fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until dough just comes together. Form into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a 9-inch pie plate, trim and crimp edges.
  4. Make the Filling: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, corn syrup, melted butter, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  5. Stir in pecan halves and chocolate chips. Pour filling into the prepared pie crust.
  6. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until filling is set but slightly jiggly in the center. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
  7. Let cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra special treat.
