Sugared Cranberries on a Festive Plate

These glistening sugared cranberries are a festive and delightful treat. Perfect for garnishing desserts, adding a pop of color to cheese boards, or simply enjoying as a sweet and tart snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 2 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pick over the cranberries, discarding any that are soft or damaged.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and the water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat and add the cranberries. Stir to coat them evenly with the sugar syrup.
  4. Cover the saucepan and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to overnight.
  5. Drain the cranberries well in a colander.
  6. Spread the remaining 1 cup of sugar in a shallow dish or on a plate.
  7. Working in batches, roll the cranberries in the sugar until they are completely coated.
  8. Place the sugared cranberries on a wire rack to dry for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For a festive variation, try adding a pinch of cinnamon or orange zest to the sugar before coating the cranberries.
