Delightfully crispy and sweet, these Sourdough Discard Cinnamon Sugar Twists transform leftover sourdough starter into a delicious snack perfect for breakfast or dessert.

  • 1 cup sourdough discard (unfed)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, plus extra for brushing
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Additional cinnamon sugar for topping (1 tablespoon sugar + 1 teaspoon cinnamon)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine sourdough discard, flour, sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out into a 10×8 inch rectangle.
  4. Brush the dough with melted butter and sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon sugar topping.
  5. Cut the dough into 1-inch strips and twist each strip a few times, then place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
