Sourdough Chocolate Chip Muffins

  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together sourdough starter, eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
  3. In another bowl, sift together flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips gently to distribute evenly.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into the muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Allow muffins to cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra indulgent touch, sprinkle a few extra chocolate chips on top of each muffin before baking or serve warm with a dollop of butter.
