Shrimp Dirty Rice is a flavorful Cajun-inspired dish featuring seasoned shrimp, rice, and aromatic vegetables, perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until clear; drain well.
  2. In a medium pot, bring chicken broth to a boil. Add rice, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.
  3. While rice cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and celery; sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
  4. Add garlic, smoked paprika, cayenne, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add shrimp to the skillet and cook until pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and cooked rice; mix well and cook an additional 2 minutes to combine flavors.
  7. Remove from heat, stir in green onions and parsley.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with extra parsley if desired.

Notes

For extra depth, add a splash of hot sauce or serve with a side of steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
