Red Velvet Bear Cookies

Delightfully soft and cocoa-rich red velvet cookies shaped like adorable bears, perfect for festive treats or a fun snack.

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
  • Chocolate chips or candy eyes for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, then add buttermilk, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar, mixing until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  7. Use a bear-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Decorate each bear with chocolate chips or candy eyes as desired.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set, then remove and allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  10. Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Notes

For an extra festive touch, drizzle melted white chocolate over the cooled cookies or use colored icing to add facial features.
