Mango Sticky Rice

Mango Sticky Rice is a traditional Thai dessert featuring sweet coconut-infused sticky rice paired with ripe, juicy mango slices for a perfect balance of creamy and fruity flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup glutinous (sticky) rice
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon mung beans, toasted (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until water runs clear. Soak rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the rice and steam it in a bamboo steamer or a steaming basket lined with cheesecloth for about 20-25 minutes until tender.
  3. While rice is steaming, combine coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves and mixture is warm, then remove from heat.
  4. When rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and gradually pour in 1 cup of the coconut milk mixture. Stir gently, cover, and let it absorb the liquid for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Serve the sticky rice topped with fresh mango slices. Drizzle remaining coconut milk mixture over the top.
  6. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds or mung beans for garnish, if desired.

Notes

For best flavor, use very ripe mangoes and serve the sticky rice slightly warm or at room temperature. Toasted mung beans or sesame seeds add a nice textural contrast.
