Lasagna with Ricotta Cheese

This classic Italian lasagna layers tender pasta sheets with creamy ricotta cheese, rich marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella for a comforting and satisfying meal.

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, salt, and pepper; mix well.
  3. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. Layer 4 noodles over the sauce. Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then add one-third of the marinara sauce, followed by one-third of the mozzarella cheese.
  5. Repeat layers two more times, ending with mozzarella cheese on top.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.
  7. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, incorporate cooked ground beef or sautéed vegetables in the sauce layers. Serve with a fresh green salad and garlic bread.
