These homemade buttermilk biscuits are incredibly light, fluffy, and flavorful. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a side with your favorite meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, for brushing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in cold buttermilk. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat into a 3/4-inch thick rectangle.
  6. Use a 2-inch biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits. Place biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, try folding the dough over on itself a few times before cutting out the biscuits.
