Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • Food coloring gels (red, blue, yellow, green, or desired colors)
  • Optional: sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and sour cream until well combined.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry flour mixture until a soft dough forms.
  6. Divide the dough into equal portions and tint each with a different food coloring.
  7. On a clean surface, gently press and fold the colored dough portions together just enough to create a marbled effect—do not overmix.
  8. Roll the marbled dough into a log and slice into ¼-inch thick cookies.
  9. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  11. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Optional: Decorate with sprinkles while the cookies are still warm.

Notes

For a festive touch, try adding a splash of almond extract to the dough or top with colored sugar sprinkles before baking.
