chicken parmesan

Chicken Parmesan is a classic Italian-American dish featuring breaded chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese, perfect for a comforting dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound to an even thickness, about 1/2 inch.
  3. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
  4. Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off excess, then dip into the egg, and finally coat evenly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the chicken breasts until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Transfer the fried chicken to a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each breast, then top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven until cheese is melted and bubbly, about 15-20 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce or serve with a side of spaghetti.
