Close-up of homemade Chicken Kofta Meatballs with fresh herbs

These Chicken Kofta Meatballs are flavorful, spiced ground chicken balls perfect for a hearty dinner or appetizer inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
  • 1 tbsp plain yogurt (optional, for serving)
  • Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, grated onion, minced garlic, parsley, cilantro, and all spices. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Mix the ingredients well until thoroughly combined, but do not overwork the meat to keep the meatballs tender.
  3. Shape the mixture into small golf ball-sized meatballs and place them on a plate.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  5. Cook the meatballs in batches, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and let rest for a couple minutes.
  7. Serve warm with a dollop of yogurt and lemon wedges if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, try grilling the kofta instead of pan-frying, and serve with warm pita bread and a side of cucumber yogurt sauce.
