Cheese Fondue Recipe

Enjoy a classic cheese fondue, perfect for dipping bread, vegetables, and fruit. This warm and comforting dish is ideal for sharing with friends and family.

  • 1 clove garlic, halved
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 pound Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 pound Emmental cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Kirsch (cherry brandy)
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Pinch of white pepper
  • Baguette, cubed, for dipping
  • Assorted vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots), for dipping

Instructions

  1. Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the garlic halves. Discard garlic.
  2. Pour the white wine and lemon juice into the pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. In a bowl, toss the Gruyère and Emmental cheeses with the cornstarch.
  4. Gradually add the cheese mixture to the pot, stirring constantly in a figure-eight motion until the cheese is melted and smooth.
  5. Stir in the Kirsch, nutmeg, and white pepper.
  6. Keep the fondue warm over a low flame or on a fondue burner.
  7. Serve immediately with baguette cubes and assorted vegetables for dipping.

Notes

For a richer flavor, try adding a splash of dry sherry or brandy to the fondue. Serve with a variety of dipping options, such as apples, pears, or cooked sausages.
