Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 jalapeños, finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 burger buns
  • Lettuce leaves, for serving
  • Tomato slices, for serving
  • Pickles, optional
  • Mayonnaise or mustard, optional

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, shredded cheddar, chopped jalapeños, diced onion, minced garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a burger patty.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness and the cheese inside is melted.
  4. Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or skillet.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing lettuce on the bottom bun, then the cooked patty, followed by tomato slices and pickles if using. Spread mayonnaise or mustard on the top bun if desired.
  6. Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes.

Notes

For an extra smoky flavor, try grilling the patties over charcoal and add avocado slices for creaminess.
