Teriyaki Sauce

Classic teriyaki sauce with a perfect balance of sweet and savory, ideal for glazing meats, dipping, or stir-frying your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 1/4 cup sake
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Lower the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
  4. If a thicker sauce is desired, stir the cornstarch slurry and slowly add it to the sauce while stirring constantly.
  5. Simmer for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before using as a glaze, marinade, or dipping sauce.

Notes

For a richer flavor, substitute brown sugar with honey or add a teaspoon of toasted sesame oil before serving.
